So I never had a Sony console accessible of my own until very recently. When I wanted to play on the Playstation, I would have to play it at my cousin’s house. One of the disks my cousin had was a Demo Disc. It had Parappa the Rapper on it. On that demo, you could play the first stage of the game, which is the song Chop Chop Master Onion.
I suppose this is an example of loving a song in a game before playing the whole game? The demo at least. This song has lived rent-free in my head since I played this at my cousin’s house. It didn’t help that whether you won or lost in that demo it would replay this level over and over again.
The silly lyrics during the interstitials were cleverly written and the simple word per button press made it easy for my little, impressionable mind to remember to Kick, Punch, Chop, and Block my way to that win.
Just recently I was able to play through the entire game (through the Remastered version on PS4) and despite it being a short game, I loved every second of the nonsense and remembered that after all of it, I just gotta believe!
