It’s May the 4th, and it happens to be Monday. I thought “why not, let’s make this one themed!”
The fun part about this is that a lot of Star Wars music is from the iconic John Williams score, which wouldn’t be within the rules of Music Monday.
This is actually a bit of a stretch as it’s a parody (as I found out later) but the song for this week’s Music Monday is….. “I’m Han Solo” from Star Wars Kinect.
So if you didn’t know, I grew up as a bit of a Star Wars nerd (I also just love a LOT of sci-fi but today we’re focusing on Star Wars) and would pick up all of the big games that they released. I loved the Jedi Knight series, Battlefront (the original ones), Shadows of the Empire, etc.
I also happened to have an Xbox and was really excited for the Kinect as an accessory when it came out on the Xbox 360. Something that you can use your motion to play? That’s so cool! Imagine my glee when I found out that they were coming out with a game for Kinect that was STAR WARS! It had lightsaber battles and some other modes, but the thing that really caught my eye was the dance mode. I love games like Dance Dance Revolution, Just Dance, and Dance Central, so you can imagine my delight!
I looked at the songs.
The songs were covers and parodies. There were some songs like “Hologram Girl” which was a parody of “Hollaback Girl” or “Princess in a Battle” which was a parody of “Genie in a Bottle” and there was one that was a gem that just stood out above the rest, and at the time I had no idea it was a parody of another song.
One thing you might not know about me is that I was a little sheltered when it would come to certain kinds of music. I didn’t know a few of the songs like that. There are also some songs that I only know in Spanish because we would learn them in Spanish class and I didn’t know the original songs there either!
The song starts with the chorus, which is below:
I’m feelin’ like a star, you can’t stop my shine
“I’m Han Solo”
I’m lovin’ Cloud City, my head’s in the sky
I’m Solo, I’m Han Solo
I’m Han Solo, I’m Han Solo, Solo
It got me grooving. I was hooked.
I’m really not sure what else to say aside from the fact that I really loved the song and I’m not sure how else I could celebrate Star Wars Day…
